  • Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa | HTL

Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa The Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa rests among the glittering seas of the Maldives as a jewel of luxury, rest and relaxation. The island hosts an array of buildings, including the spa complex, Lagoon Restaurant & Bar, all day dining room & pool bar. At HTL, we were involved from an early stage and were able to provide various costing options for different products and solutions. This enabled us to provide specialised engineered timber for their buildings that was visually beautiful, structurally strong and suited to the marine environment. The spa complex is made up of a host of unique structures. In the treatment rooms and main building, laminated timber was required for the rafters. Each pair of rafters was a different diameter and needed curved ridges. The solution HTL provided were 240x88 GL8 curved eave beams, crafted in a “round the building” style. 360x88 GL8 curved ridges and 140x63 GL8 curved rafters were crafted in an “over the rainbow” style. Accurate modelling was crucial for these curved roofs, and the results showcase a stunning and functional space with elegant biophilic design. Laminated timber was also used in the main building of the spa complex, with straight 190x88 GL8 eave beams and straight 240x88 GL8 ridges, providing an attractive and professional look. BACK TO PROJECTS H-LAM GL8 products were ideal for the Emerald Faarufushi, as HTL were able to manufacture the timber to the clients specific needs. This enabled the architects and construction teams to achieve not only the structural requirements needed, but also the relaxing aesthetic that makes the Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa heaven on earth.

HTL Projects Our projects are a highlight of the specialized engineered timber products industry. We take part in many national projects throughout New Zealand, as well as international projects. HTL has the capability to create unique and custom beams for projects with competitive pricing options. See below some of our recent projects. Motueka Public Library, Motueka - Tasman Designed by JTB Architects and engineered by AMK Ltd, this building is environmentally friendly with low-carbon and energy-efficient timber materials included in many aspects of the design. HTL’s H-LAM™ beams are visible from the exterior and interior of the building, providing an aesthetically appealing look with timber to encourage a relaxed atmosphere. Cawthron Institute, National Algae Research Centre - Nelson Designed by JTB Architects and engineered by AMK Structural Consulting Engineers. HTL were involved from an early stage in assisting with advice on what was required to be achieved for this indoor sea spray environment, advising on connection materials, durability, timber treatment, and timber coating system. HTL Glulam purlins and girts were used within this build to support the lightweight cladding system. Falcon Brae Villa, Motueka Valley - Tasman Falcon Brae Villa is the result of a dream-like vision designed to integrate the structure of a luxury villa against the backdrop of the breath-taking natural environment of the Motueka Valley, perched perfectly between national parks. The ‘Falcon’ in the name resonates through curved elliptical falcon-wing roofs made of HTL H-LAM™ which are a feature of this highly bespoke building. Each roof frame was set up in the HTL factory and transported to site. Sabine Road, Richmond - Tasman Built by Bruce Design & Build, they choose for HTL to manufacture New Zealand Larch Vertical Shiplap, for its cost-effective natural appearance. HTL’s sawmill milled the New Zealand Larch and dried the timber with our onsite kilns. HTL machined the larch into our cladding profile HTL51, then machine coated with Dryden WoodOil “Lite Oak” for a contemporary finish. Emerald Faaurfushi Resort & Spa, Faaurfushi Island - Maldives HTL are pioneers in Glulam (H-LAM™) fabrication, leading the way in supplying local and international markets. HTL supplied curved beams and rafters for this beautiful resort in the Maldives. HTL were involved from an early stage in assisting with advice on what can be achieved and different cost options, in particular working on the GL8 curved beams and rafters. Kaikoura Civic Centre Architecturally designed to represent a giant cray pot, the Kaikoura Civic Centre resists lateral loading through Pres-Lam walls spread around the structure. These walls are also the first cross-laminated timber (CLT) use in a Pres-Lam structure. To provide strength where required, LVL was used in critical regions of the CLT, another first for New Zealand. The Civic Centre has won awards for the innovative use of timber, resulting in a distinctive technical/structural solution in a residential, commercial, industrial, or public building environment. Upper Hutt Railway Station Opened in November 2015, the Upper Hutt Railway Station was the long-awaited replacement for the commuter city's main transport hub. The station was designed by Studio Design and Architecture’s Wellington studio. HTL supplied GL10 glulam (H-LAM™) and LVL componentry, fabricated the portal frames, and supplied the LVL purlins cut to length and drilled. Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology HTL re-manufacture LVL fabrication, leading the way with the Arts & Media Building, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology. HTL re-laminated all the LVL which produced massive holt LVL beams, columns, and rocking sheer walls. Stressed skin floors were also manufactured in conjunction with Potius Flooring. Waitomo Caves Visitor Centre Waitomo Caves visitor center, Waitomo, was designed by Architecture Workshop and engineered by Dunning Thornton.
